Scoring A Goal For Your Kids

By -, July 9, 2009 6:32 pm

Now we are not talking about professional soccer for a change, something for the children to keep them occupied in the backyard with a soccer ball and a soccer goal net. Simple as that, yes they learn hand, foot and eye co-ordination and that’s only the one side of it all.

The children also learn to participate as a team if having a small game of soccer at home just to occupy them just before suppertime, just something to keep them out from under your feet and help tire them out. The portable soccer goal net can at least be taken down and put away if necessary or be carted with if you go away, but still wish to keep the little ones busy too.

The soccer goal net is obtainable at leading sport shops and at most large mass stores, so they are not that difficult to get hold of. The benefit of having the soccer goal net is that you also teach your children to be a bit competitive as they challenge each other or friends who can score the most goals.

A step toward physical fitness and social development

It also teaches kids that outdoor sports can be fun. Developing Potential Most children who practice regularly will become reasonably proficient at the game. Some children will stand out, showing a special talent. For children with an aptitude for soccer, there are summer soccer camps where professional trainers teach the finer points of the game. If you don’t know anything about soccer, there are online tutorials and books available at your public library. You can educate yourself while teaching your child.

Remember though, that soccer is a game and is intended to be fun. Don’t force a reluctant child to play. The best way to encourage your child to participate is to get involved yourself. Don’t stand on the sidelines and let the kids have all the fun, score a soccer goal or two yourself. Children love activities that their parents are actively involved in. A practice area can be set up in even a small backyard.

By having the soccer goal net up at home, there is also a lot of time saved by you not having to go to the soccer field on a regular basis, if the child is keen on soccer, they can play and practice safely at home. While some soccer goal nets are made of aluminum or a sturdy plastic to survive staying outdoors continually, damage will occur in due course. Unfortunately to get spare parts is not always possible as they are sold as a complete unit that may just fold up at joints; care should still be taken to allow your sporting equipment to last longer.

What Equipment Do You Need To Play Soccer?

By -, May 7, 2009 10:04 pm

For kids, soccer is an excellentchoice because you need very little equipment to play it.  Basically, you need a ball and some space – and that’s all.  Head into your local sporting supply store, though, and you will soon start to think that you must have a very large bank balance to afford all the soccer equipment the salesman will say you need to play the game.

The reality is that if your child is just likes to kick around a soccer ball, you probably don’t need a great deal in the way of soccer equipment.  But if your child wants to participate in a team and begin some soccer training, then it’s worth spending a few dollars to make sure they have the right gear.

If they’re going to join a team, then it’s most likely the team will have a uniform.  This will involve a top, shorts and matching socks.  Some teams are happy to use reasonably generic uniform, others will have a specialised design.  It might be possible for you to purchase a second hand uniform from someone else in the team who has grown too big for theirs – it’s certainly worth asking around!

Shoes are the next item on the list.  It’s possible to play soccer in standard trainers, but it may not be a good idea for your child’s feet and ankles.  Grass can be slippery if it’s a little bit wet, and soccer often involves rapid changes of direction.  If you can manage, it’s worthwhile buying soccer footwear with cleats.  These will help to provide much better traction on grass and reduce the risk of slipping over and twisted ankles.  It’s worth spending a few extra dollars to get a good quality pair, because they will certainly be subject to some tough punishment!

Shin guards are optional, but are a good idea even at the beginning level.  They need to be firm, but still allow enough movement and flexibility to not interfere with the player’s movement.  It’s important to try them on to make sure they are the right fit for your child.

If your child needs a soccer ball to practice with at home, then check what size ball is used for games.  Smaller children use a smaller size soccer ball, and it’s important to practice with the same size ball at home for consistency.  If your child already has a standard size ball it may still be worth buying a smaller one to match what they use with their team.

Some other soccer equipment that you might like to purchase, but which falls into the realm of “likes” rather than must haves, includes:

- Practice goal – but you’ll need some space to use it!
– Soccer equipment bag
– Soccer cones for drill practice

When your child starts a new sporting interest, like soccer, it can seem a bit overwhelming in the beginning to buy all the necessary equipment.  But if you can afford to purchase good quality soccer equipment then your investment will pay for itself by withstanding a lot of the rough usage and vigorous activity that goes with soccer without falling apart.  Better to replace soccer equipment because your child has outgrown it, rather than because it’s fallen apart.
